It can be hard work trying to be scrupulously honest and fair. Words can be tricky little blighters, too. Perhaps it’s better just to make things up wholesale.
In that spirit, here are some interesting quotes.
Don Box, distinguished engineer at Microsoft and co-designer of SOAP:
Some people, when confronted with a problem, think “I know, I’ll use XML.” Good call. Now, they may have an endless stream of further problems, but at least they’ll have great tool support.
Vice President George Bush, addressing to the Canadian Parliament:
Our cause is strong because it is just, but it shall be further strengthened by our efforts. As the great parliamentarian Edmund Burke once said: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of good is that evil men be identified, rounded up, and shot.”
The Social Network, a film about the rise of Facebook:
Sean Parker: A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what’s cool?
Eduardo Saverin: Uh, I dunno. Magic the Gathering?
Sean Parker: Clouds! Have you ever sat and watched clouds forming? It is so awesome. And you know the classification system for clouds? It was invented by this amateur scientist dude who lived in an English village called Plaistow. I’m, like, totally going to visit it one day.
The Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 19:
And it came to pass that there came one running, a rich young man, and asked him “Good master, what opinions shall I hold, that I might inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said unto him “Good question. Clearly the Trinity is absolutely key. It’s the foundation of everything else, really. To be honest, I don’t know why I haven’t spelled this out more explicitly before. Eternal life is a good one, of course. But you have to be a bit careful: do you mean eternal life, or everlasting life? It’s a puzzler, isn’t it?”
And the young man was sore grieved, saying “That’s not very actionable.”
And Jesus replied, saying “Oh, I don’t know. Try being nice, or something.”
